Work is all very well, and social life is even better, but sometimes a body needs to plonk down into a cushy seat and watch some entertaining shows. Here’s a list of my favourites of the moment.
True blood: the newest creation of Alan Ball, the director and writer of Six Feet Under. What would happen if vampires ‘came out’, went public ? Dark and adult, and pretty good. The theme video (english?) reminds me of the start of “Down By Law”, one of my favourite movies.
Mad men: advertisement industry in New York in the fifties. A time when the term ‘sexual harassment’ didn’t exist, smoking and drinking everywhere was OK. Pretty cynical, but very watchable. A bit costume drama-ish at times.
Chuck: loser geek gets caught in spy intrigue. Not realistic at all, but good comedy value. I especially like the sequences at the Buy More, a fictional american version of Media Markt, where Chuck works.
House: of course. Surprises us by staying excellent season after season.
What are yours ?
True Blood is ok! I hesitated at first, watched the first two episodes, and then left it hanging until two weeks ago. I like stories that continue (big saga’s).
other series…i like fantasy. So i’m giving a chance to Sanctuary and Merlin, they are ok, but not very good. Legend of the Seeker is promising though.

I recently watched the 2 seasons of Twin Peaks. Definitely worth it (and great to see that the hip kids these days stole the 1990 fashion).
Lost of course! The best. TV-show. Evar!
@Peter : i’m afraid to get into Lost after what happened to Alias.
@boskabout: i should get to that sometime
David Lynch is the master of weird.
@Paul thanks for the tips ! didn’t like Sanctuary, but i’ll check out the other ones you suggest.
Je reste fidèle à Desperate Housewifes et True Blood me plait de plus en plus.
@elise: TBH I am not big on TV (the series I watched at least one episodes were: House, 24, Lost… umm… I really don’t know about more) so I can’t say I have a great overview – however if Alias is close to anything I think it is, then compare it to lost is like compare … um… well it’s just not the same league.
Lost is better and better by every season – there are just 2 more seasons to go so I doubt they will screw it up too much. I highly recommend to check it out – even if you are not sure after watching the first few parts, be assured that it will be better and better.
Sorry I meant ‘the series I watched at least one season…’
@Peter thx, i might give it a chance sometimes. Alias started out intriguing and full of action, and ended up stretching the suspension of disbelief by all the backflips the plot was making.
Ok, so Lost is the other way around – it starts like a world-of-flies/robinson-crusoe clone (though a very good one), and ends up (after the 4th season, still 2 more to go so) in something totally different, not just plot-wise, but in the style and methods of story-telling and everything… it can’t be really described, you have to check it out
Lost is weird, Twin Peaks is überweirdness all around and waaaaaaay more kinky!
