Google is getting criticism as a search engine:
- for influencing the search results it presents
- for arranging the results according to what they gathered about your interests
- for all kinds of things.
The question is: is there a viable alternative ?
On ZDNet: a chapter from Linux in a nutshell, about booting. Nothing really new there. What I’d like is to carry my OS around on an external hard drive. Imagine: you plug it in wherever you are, and you get your favourite OS on the spot ! I’ve been told that is possible (as a virtual machine ?) with Qemu.
And lastly: social networking for ethical businesses. I suppose principles and values also count as boundary objects.
Thanks for the tip on ethical social networks. I’m interested in them…
Strange enough, i was looking for the portable linux thing too. I already found this for Ubuntu 7.04 –>

Haven’t tried it yet, so if you get there before me…lemme know how it works out
Linux on Qemu running in windows works fine indeed.
Depending on your computer’s RAM and CPU specs, you could go for a lightweight distro (such as DSL, see http://damnsmalllinux.org/) or a full-fledged Ubuntu Gutsy (without the fancy 3d acceleration bling-bling off course) .
I described the process of doing so with Ubuntu a few months ago on http://blog.futtta.be/2007/05/07/pinguin-vrijheid-op-je-dichtgetimmerde-bedrijfslaptop, (in Dutch). hope this helps.
Thanks for all the tips ! I’ll give it a go soon.
