First Brussels Girl Geek Dinners last night, organized by Clo.
I was expecting something like the female version of the (gender-free but mostly male) GeekDinners i’ve already been to: high octane geeks talking implementation grit over a meal.
Nothing was farther from the truth – in fact Clo had managed to pull together a flamboyant mix of
- web designers
- social media consultants
- entrepreneurs
- artists and DJs
- marketing
- not to mention extensive media coverage
- … and a few under ‘other IT’ (more conventional geekdom)
The male ornaments were mostly influential bloggers.
At first i was a bit surprised by this – i came hoping to meet kindred spirits – but then i realized this is not a bad thing. It means that the technology-oriented women of this country, instead of obsessing about implementation details, go for the bigger picture. They use ICT as a means to an end.
I met some very nice people i hope i will meet again. Most importantly, i won a Geeky Chix t-shirt ! Which is the very first thing i own that combines the attributes of ‘geeky’ and ‘cute’. Funny where life will take you sometimes.
Hi Elise, it was nice meeting you! Tineke
Good seeing you too ! maybe we’ll meet again
It was nice seeing you.
Next time I might actually talk to you
(I’m way too shy)
