As announced, today is Blog Action Day – the theme is the environment.
I could start with climate control, go over the increasing power needs of India and China, and finish with the decreasing biodiversity of our planet. The kind of world-scale problem that just make you want to crawl back to bed.
So I’ll do personal scale. How to make a small difference without being a full-out eco-warrior with dreads and hemp robes:
- take public transport when humanly possible. or walk. or bike
- prefer train to plane when humanly possible
- eat seasonal and local vegetable and fruits. Makes sense because they taste better as well (sorry, couldn’t find the tables in dutch or english). Bio-labeled.
- use eco-friendly cleaning products
- switch out light and desktop computer at night, or when I leave the room
- sort the trash (hoping that the downstream processing will recycle as much as possible)
- avoid products with a ridiculous amount of packaging
- avoid furniture made of rare tropical woods
- get myself on the waiting list for an ecological energy supplier
- if i get rich i’ll buy solar panels, promise
Nothing new, really. Waiting for the scientific geniuses to come up with the ultimate solutions (cold fusion, cheap solar panels, waste transmutation, clean transportation), but in the meantime maybe those little bits will help. Hopefully.
Elise, The little bits you mention DO help. And many geniuses working on the subject, its what we blog about on Ecocool. Not today though, today we only link to blogs like yours: we added your contribuition to our BAD-list on http://www.ecocool.be.
Regards,
Cas
